yi, er, san, si!

kai is nearly 4 months old now. it's crazy how fast time flies! we have been having a lot of laughs with him. apparently he thinks it's hilarious when rick counts to 4 in mandarin. unfortunately, we have a long way to go on the mandarin and korean...for now he hears a lot of cantonese and tagalog - not exactly our first choices (sorry), but maybe we can start to train him soon. any pointers on teaching your kids more than one language? i guess it would have helped if i spoke more mandarin to him.

Comments:
Kai is sooo cute. AS for us, we speak Cantonese to Brennan at home and insist he needs to speak Chinese at home. He picks up English really fast in Nursey. so I "wish" he will stay in tune with his Cantonese. We are coming back to HK for five weeks. I hope that will help him to speak more and hear more Cantonese. Afterall, I want him to know Chinese, esp Cantonese.

Thanks. Yeah, I would really like Kai to speak Mandarin AND Korean...but unfortunately we both don't speak fluently, so he will miss out learning it well, if from us. I am debating if I should speak to him still, or just send him to Chinese school. Hmm...

I was inspired by a friend of mine who served his mission in France. Not only does each of his kids understand, they voluntarily speak it with him all the time. He told me that between 1 and 2, he realized they could learn. So I've started speaking primarily to Taisei in Mandarin. Wami, obviously, has always been in Japanese. At 1 and a half, Taisei clearly is responding to Mandarin and Japanese. So no matter how silly you feel, you've just gotta speak it at em. I think between 1 and 2 is when the super-osmosis begins.

he's such a happy baby!!! so cute and so happy! for Jeremiah, we decided that we will speak to him in English and Allen's parents will speak to him strictly in Mandarin and my parents will speak to him strictly in Cantonese. :) We'll see how that works!

holla at me
