happy new year!
well it's that time of year again i guess. time is really flying by. today is the last day of our 4 day weekend and it's time to do all those things that we thought we would do once we "had time". chinese new year is here again, and unfortunately we get shorted a day since it falls on the weekend.
for those who don't know, we've been searching for a new flat for some time now. it's been hard to balance the things that we want - more space (=more $), not too expensive (=more $), cleaner air (=more $), and convenience (=more $) - maybe you can detect a theme here. alicia hooked us up at our present place so i don't think it's realistic to try to get a similar price. we did however weigh our options in terms of staying on the island but still getting to a kid-friendly environment which didn't add on too much in transportation time/cost. you don't really want to stretch 14 hour days by tacking on 30 more minutes each way for a commute.

the good news is we've found a place, and it satisfies most of our criteria. we've taken the blessed/unspeakable step (depending on whether you're a "db person" or an "island person") of deciding to move to discovery bay. we got a reasonably priced place with decently sized rooms, close to the ferry and amenities (beach, super, club, bank, restaurants). we move out at the end of the month. that's right, next week.
other than that, it's life as usual. a lot of stuff blurs together, and what we remember are the highlights - sitting in mom and dad's living room and having a chat, visiting with kai and rhonda's baby, zuzu, trying to convince some good friends to move out here, watching a movie together, feeling the baby kick, meeting for lunch, alicia's favorite ice cream at haagen dazs, watching 24 and prison break...
life is good and we think of friends and family often. hope you are all well!

just a matter of figuring out how to pay the bills...

congratulations on the move! and you're doing it at the perfect time. moving while pregnant may be a little awkward, but doing it after the baby comes is well nigh impossible! we're still moving in after starting 2 months ago... haha oh well, i guess with the navy it's something we'll have to get used to.
Make sure to post lots of pictures (w/ your nice camera!) of your new place so we can visualize. :)
Dave, you're going there for sure?

Nice - I would want to live in Discovery Bay too if we were in HK. It looks really nice--green, fresher air, places to take easy strolls. All good reasons. Alicia - we saw your brother Mark the other day at Riverwoods. It never ceases to amaze me how you, Mark and Andrew are all splitting images of each other. Amazing.
holla at me
